Corneometry
Skin hydration
The efficacy of products applied to the skin which are intended to improve hydration can be demonstrated using corneometry. This is based on the principle that the permittivity (ε, dielectric conductivity) of the skin increases at higher levels of hydration. The Corneometer CM 825 (Courage + Khazaka electronic GmbH) we use gives fewer false positives caused by deeper structures such as blood vessels due to its shallow penetration (10-20 µm into the epidermis) and short measurement bursts (1 second/reading). The effect of the product can be demonstrated clearly by comparing it with readings from untreated areas of skin.
