The 5-star seal applies to long-term application tests which provide the maximum possible protection in order to rule out as far as possible subsequent skin reactions among the target demographic: products which have been tested in this way can be termed “clinically tested”. The aim of our application studies is to investigate products thoroughly for tolerability and, as appropriate, efficacy according to clinical dermatology criteria. As a rule, at least 20 test subjects use the product in line with the manufacturer’s instructions, for at least four weeks. If it is applied to the intended skin area (eye cream on the eyes, for instance), the product receives the 5-star seal (“clinically tested”) once the study has completed successfully. The 5-star seal applies to the Original Dermatest® premium sector. Studies with this distinction go beyond determining the potential for skin irritation in terms of their significance. Among other things, application over four weeks can usually rule out sensitisation potential. Complex time planning and test subjects who are specially selected for the requirements of particular tests are just as much part of the standard as the measurement of various physiological skin parameters. The efficacy, safety in use and tolerability of a product are investigated and monitored for longer. Tests are conducted on the intended site of application: eye cream, for example, is investigated directly on the eyes and eyelids.

The Original Dermatest^® seals represent traceability of test methods as well as for consumer safety and manufacturer endorsement. Depending on the test design and type of study, the seals have four different categories signifying their importance.

What testing is required to earn the 5-star seal?

The 5-star seal applies to long-term use tests carried out on at least 20 test subjects over a period of at least 4 weeks on the intended site of application. They provide the maximum possible protection in order to rule out as far as possible subsequent skin reactions among the target demographic: products which have been tested in this way can be termed “clinically tested”.

How much does the seal cost?

The seals come free of charge provided your product has successfully passed the relevant testing.

How long is the seal valid for?

There is no time limit set for using the seal. However, if anything changes in the composition or formulation of the products, a new test must be arranged. Under EU legislation, the date the testing was carried out must appear on the product packaging, which is why the month and year of testing are included as part of the seal.

Can the colour or design of the seal be changed to suit our graphic design?
